To kick off Hot Wheels’ 40th anniversary, Mattel unveiled a diamond encrusted 1:64 scale Hot Wheels car. This took place in February this year at the 105th American International Toy Fair in New York. The car is one-of-a-kind and the most expensive in Hot Wheels history -- made to commemorate the production of the 4 billionth Hot Wheels vehicle. It was designed by celebrity jeweller Jason Arasheben. “Collaborating with Mattel on the jeweled Hot Wheels car was a dream project for me,” said Jason.
The custom-made jewelled car is valued at US$140,000, and cast in 18-k white gold. It includes more than 2,700 diamonds that weigh nearly 23 carats total. Most of the vehicle is detailed with micro pave-set blue diamonds. Under the hood, the engine showcases white and black diamonds. Rubies are set as the tail lights. The case that houses the bejewelled vehicle itself holds 40 white diamonds (the number represents each year in the Hot Wheels legacy). Multi-platinum recording artist Nick Lachey was there to donate the vehicle for auction in late 2008 to his charity of choice: ‘Big Brothers Big Sisters’.
About Jason Jason of Beverly Hills has a global reputation for creating lavish, diamond masterpieces for extremely selective clientele, including European and Middle Eastern royalty. He is also known for his spectacular one-of-a-kind diamond pieces for entertainment’s biggest stars including Jessica Alba, Ashton Kutcher, LeBron James, Michael Jackson, Princess Latifa Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Missy Elliot, and others. |
