Love tokens, secrets, kisses, romance, promises to keep ....... Will you be my Valentine? We all watch for the post to arrive on February 14th.Will that special person send a card? It's nearly always unsigned and that's part of the excitement. Will it be from a secret admirer? Or maybe you'll have a good idea who it's from. This element of mystery is what makes the day special and it's only until later when gifts and kisses are exchanged that the love secret is out. Why is love so special on this particular cold February day? There are several origins. Some say that it goes back to Roman times and a lovelorn priest called Valentine who sent love letters to a young woman and signed them from your Valentine. When he died, on February 14th, 269A.D. the Pope decreed that the date should ever more be Valentine's Day. It became the custom for lover to exchange greetings and it's gone on ever since. Others believe that Valentine's Day is in honour of the Roman Godess Juno whose feast day was on February 14th. This was a holiday in her name and as she was the goddess of women and marriage the day became associated with choosing a marriage partner
But if you want to let the object of your affection know how much you care, then an item of jewellery is the perfect gift. Enduring and symbolic, a fine item of jewellery can be as light hearted or as deeply meaningful as you care to make it. Perhaps a silver ring from Nick Hubbard - three little wishes, star gazing, home sweet home...... there are rings and earrings, bracelets and brooches to choose from. For the man in your life, a Nomination bracelet with silver and titanium links. Which will it be? |
